LeashLink would not exist without the mapping providers and open-data communities below. Here is who powers what, and the licences that make it possible.
Our maps are powered by OpenStreetMap, the free, editable map of the world, created and maintained by volunteers worldwide. Every park, footpath, and dog-friendly trail you see on LeashLink owes something to their work.

LeashLink basemap tiles are styled by Carto Voyager theme, a clean and balanced design that keeps streets, parks, and landmarks easy to read at every zoom level. Carto styles the tiles; the underlying data still comes from OpenStreetMap.

Please read these terms carefully before using LeashLink
A1. User-Generated Routes & GPX Files
LeashLink provides user-generated mapping routes for informational and recreational purposes only. We do not verify, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy, safety, or legal status (such as public rights of way) of any route uploaded or drawn by users. By using these routes, you acknowledge that terrain and legal access rights can change. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to access land (e.g., under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000) and that the route is safe for you and your dog. LeashLink accepts no liability for trespass, injury, or loss resulting from the use of user-generated walks.
A2. Community-Sourced Information
Map markers, dog bin locations, and bin statuses are crowdsourced and rely entirely on community submissions. While LeashLink employs a verification system, we make no warranties regarding the actual existence, hygiene, or operational status of any council or private bin.
A3. Lost Dog Alerts
LeashLink acts solely as a passive venue for broadcasting lost dog alerts. We are not responsible for the accuracy of any alert, nor do we manage, verify, or intervene in any recovery efforts or reward disputes. Users are strictly prohibited from using lost dog alerts to harass individuals or post defamatory claims.
B1. Veterinary Disclaimer
LeashLink's Medical Suite (including the weight tracker, medication checklist, and health summaries) is provided as an organisational tool for personal use only. It does not constitute, nor is it a substitute for, professional veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment. LeashLink is not a veterinary provider. Always consult a registered veterinary surgeon for any concerns regarding your pet's health or before administering medication.
C1. Third-Party Map Licensing
The Pathfinder and Ranger tiers utilise premium mapping data, including Ordnance Survey (OS) and satellite imagery. By accessing these maps, you agree to be bound by the End User Licence Agreements (EULA) of our respective mapping providers. You may not scrape, extract, copy, or redistribute this premium map data outside of the LeashLink application or use it for commercial purposes.
D1. Auto-Renewal
Monthly and annual subscriptions (Guardian, Pathfinder, and Ranger) will automatically renew at the end of your billing cycle unless cancelled.
D2. Cancellation & Cooling-Off Periods
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings in the app. If you cancel, you will retain access to your premium features until the end of your current billing period.
Terms for businesses advertising on LeashLink
E1. Marker Content and Approval
LeashLink offers local businesses the ability to purchase sponsored map markers. All sponsored markers are subject to review. We reserve the right to reject, modify, or remove any marker that is deemed inappropriate, misleading, or irrelevant to our community of dog owners.
E2. Business Payments and Refunds
Payments for sponsored map markers are strictly business-to-business (B2B) transactions. Once a sponsored marker is published to the live map, the payment is non-refundable. LeashLink does not guarantee any specific volume of impressions, clicks, or foot traffic resulting from a sponsored marker.
E3. Subscription Filtering
Business owners acknowledge that users on certain premium tiers (such as Pathfinder and Ranger) have the feature to filter out or hide sponsored map markers from their personal view.
How payments are handled on LeashLink
F1. Third-Party Gateway
All subscription and B2B payments are processed securely through our third-party payment provider, Stripe. LeashLink does not directly collect, process, or store your credit card details or raw financial data on our servers.
How LeashLink collects and uses your data
1. Data Collection
We collect your email address, profile information, and dog profiles to operate your account.
2. Location Data
When you track a walk, we collect GPS location data. Background location tracking requires your explicit device-level consent and is only used to actively map your route.
3. Data Deletion
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to request the deletion of your personal data. You may permanently delete your account and all associated personal profiles at any time via the settings menu. Any public user-generated content (such as map markers or walks) will be anonymised and disassociated from your identity upon account deletion.
4. Third-Party Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We only share necessary data with trusted service providers (such as Stripe for secure payment processing) to operate the application.
